MIB Talk: (Barrier)free Bratislava – what is life like for wheelchair users or the blind?

Are the streets in Bratislava barrier-free? How is Bratislava changing in relation to people with disabilities? What is it like to use a wheelchair instead of walking, or to navigate the streets with a white cane in hand? Is the capital city also accommodating for seniors, children, and people with strollers?

This is what the first MIB Talk after the summer, held also on the occasion of European Mobility Week, will be about. We will show how public space in Bratislava is evolving when we also consider vulnerable groups. We will highlight examples of street transformations such as Vazovova, Mýtna, Dunajská, or Trenčianska, measures to increase safety around schools, and projects such as the revitalization of Námestie slobody or the construction of the footbridge at Partizánska lúka.

We will present the city’s accessibility map. Mária Pružincová from the Department of City Streets of the Metropolitan Institute of Bratislava and Lucia Grigová from the Public Space Concepts Section will guide you through the transformation of Bratislava.

Those who experience them firsthand on a daily basis will talk about their experiences with barriers at TU-BA:
Anna Pivková from the Department of Social Support for Seniors and People with Disabilities of the City of Bratislava, and Dušana Blašková from the Union of the Blind and Partially Sighted, editor-in-chief of Dúha, a magazine for the visually impaired.
