Community housing and challenges in architecture

Community or cooperative housing are among the topics that have recently started to appear in the Slovak discourse on housing, in connection with the growing pressure on the housing market, particularly in larger cities. In the past, the housing stock was largely privatized, and the space for cooperative housing was reduced to a very small number of available apartments.

The international organization ICLEI, in cooperation with the SPOLKA association, is preparing an educational meeting in the field of affordable housing. We will build on previous initiatives in the Slovak and Czech environments, as well as on specific activities at the TU-BA premises organized by the Housing Development Department of the City of Bratislava. We will focus on the theme of architecture and community housing. Our participants will be Mária Topolčanská, an architectural theorist and educator; Jan Malý Blažek, who works at the Faculty of Architecture at BUT (Brno University of Technology) and at the MEZE studio; Anna Remešová, an art theorist, member of the Racek Cooperative and the Sdílené domy (Shared Houses) initiative; and Moba.

For those who want to actively participate, there will also be space for a short presentation of a project, experience, or practical example.

The meeting will also include light refreshments, accommodated to various dietary needs (vegetarian, lactose-free, gluten-free, and others).
